The Moline School District will consider buying Google Chromebooks for students at its meeting on Monday, April 27, 2015.

Chris McKenzie, an English Teacher at John Deere Middle School, and some of his students are using Google Classroom and Google Chromebooks. Chromebooks are like mini laptops. Google Classroom allows teachers to collect homework without using paper. With chromebooks, students are encouraged to look up the answers themselves.

"It's so much easier," seventh grade student Joe Reddy said. "If we don't know how to spell something, we don't have to go 'Mr. McKenszie, how so you spell this word?' We can just search it on Google."

The chromebooks would cost about $200,000 per year, but the district would purchase less textbooks in the future, if they use the chromebooks. Monday's school board meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Coolidge Professional Building in Moline.
