World champion disc golfer joins QC tournament

Disc golfers competed in a weekend-long tournament in the Quad Cities and joining them was three-time world champion Paul McBeth.

The event called the “disc golf Rumble” was part of the Professional Disc Golf Association and went on from Friday, April 24 – Saturday, April 26.  The tournament consisted of one round of 24 holes each day with the showcase round at West Lake Park on Sunday.  There, professional players went head-to-head for the win.

“We believe that the Quad Cities has plenty to offer the players outside of disc golf,” said Jessica Argyle, co-owner of Iron Lion Golf Supply which is hosting the event. “[This] is becoming a premier destination stop for tournament disc golfers.”

With McBeth joining the field, Argyle said it’s a good sign that people enjoy competing in this area.

“I think it says a lot that Paul is coming back to this area and our tournament for the second year in a row,” she said. “He could be going to New Mexico where there is more money in the tournament purse the same weekend.”

Roughly 250 players took part in the tournament. The winner earned $2,000.

According to the unofficial results on the PDGA website, Paul McBeth stood in first place at 30 under par. Click here to see the unofficial results.
