The site of the former Lutheran Hospital in Moline could be replaced with a $51 million project. The city says the vacant lot is in the need of some redevelopment.

Russell Construction is proposing a development called The Point, a senior living facility. The facility would have 135 units and would offer independent living, assisted living and a memory care unit.

Right now the city of Moline owns the property. According to the agreement, Russell Construction would buy the land for $700,000. The project in total would cost $51 million.

"It provides you know not only long-term job creation, but also construction jobs. Then the seniors that move into this development free up housing that could be made available for younger families and you know other adults to live in," said Ray Forsythe, Planning and Development Director.

The property is in a TIF district so Russell Construction will get a break on property taxes. The city hopes to have construction for phase 1 started early next year if not sooner.
