Animal Control volunteers from several counties have worked tirelessly to reunite animals with their owners after the tornado that leveled the town of Fairdale, Illinois.

Heavy damage was reported in counties north of the Quad Cities; the storms seemed to intensify as they moved east, and two deaths were reported as the town of Fairdale in DeKalb County was leveled by an EF-4 tornado that struck there April 9, 2015.

Dogs, cats and chickens were among the animals lost and found after the storm. Volunteers were offering help boarding and treating livestock through the group, too. Area businesses were helping to raise money to support the effort.

A Facebook page dedicated to their work stressed lost animals and found animals need to be reported to local animal control agencies for the best chance of reuniting the pets with their owners. The page also served as a quasi-clearinghouse for posts about found animals, and posts from animal owners searching for their lost pets.

“It's important that the animals are in a central location for the owners to locate, plus they may need medical attention. Keeping them in your home and relying on social media is not in their best interest,” said the Fairdale and Rochelle Illinois Pet Recovery page.

These animal control agencies were part of the effort to reunite pets with owners after the storm:
