A pair of Alleman High School seniors are headed to the United States Military Academy at West Point this summer.

On Friday, April 17, 2015, both Brady Hoskins and Andrew Lekowski received their appointments in front of family, friends and teachers at Alleman.

"Yeah, that's actually pretty rare. It was pretty surprising that we both got in," said Hoskins. "It was a big relief, too, knowing that I would have someone else there that I know."

The application process for West Point is extensive, and Hoskins says he spent nearly a year and a half on it. Students must have good grades, pass a physical exam, and secure a nomination from a member of Congress.

According to U.S. News and World Report, West Point is among the ten most selective schools in the country, with an acceptance rate of just 9 percent.

"The hard work has paid off, and it feels great," said Lekowski.

"I was in a little bit of disbelief. I kind of had to sit back for a second and really take in what that meant, what that meant for my future," said Hoskins.

Both Hoskins and Lekowski said West Point has been their goal for many years, and called Friday's appointments a great honor.

"I've always wanted to serve my country, ever since I was young," said Lekowski.

"I knew this would push myself, both academically, physically, and definitely as a leader," said Hoskins.

Hoskins plans to major in defense and strategic studies, and Lekowski plans to study engineering. Both will graduate as commissioned officers of the U.S. Army.

They report to West Point's basic training on June 29th.
