Area Republicans are hopeful their party will come out on top for the presidential race in 2016.

The Rock Island County Board picked up two Republican seats, Illinois elected a Republican Govenor and Illinois State Senator Neil Anderson beat Democrat Mike Jacobs who served for nine years.

"I think we've been with one party for a while and I think the people are probably ready to do something else," said Drue Mielke, a Rock Island County board member.

The Rock Island County Republicans are hoping their momentum could carry over to the White House in 2016. Already four Republicans have stepped up to announce their candidacy and several others still considering to run.

"They're coming in with different set of ideas, but they're all people that I think are going to be attractive to typical undecided voter," said Bill Bloom, Rock Island County Republican Committee chairman.

Former U.S Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton has been the only Democrat so far to run.

"I think they're going to watch and see what kind of excitement she generates. What kind of controversy she generates and if she doesn't generate enough excitement I think you'll see other Democrats move into the field," said Bloom.

With so many Republicans in the ring already, the Rock Island County GOP's are hopeful for 2016.

"I'm sure one of them will come out on top. It will be interesting to see," said Bloom.

Two more potential Republican presidential candidates are set to visit the Quad Cities in the next few weeks. Donald Trump will visit Davenport's Radisson Hotel for a breakfast on April 30th and Dr. Ben Carson will visit St. Ambrose on May 6th.
