We're getting a better idea of what Bettendorf could like once the new I-74 bridge is done.

K&K True Value Hardware is one of the oldest businesses still around in downtown Bettendorf. It opened back in 1940. However, since that time there's been a lot of change. About 40 businesses had to move to make way for the I-74 bridge project.

For a year the city had been working on a plan for how they want the future of Bettendorf to look, holding several public meetings to get input.

"They want more activity downtown, they want more housing, want more retail opportunities," said Bill Conners, the Community Development Director for Bettendorf.

On Monday, April 13th, the city revealed their plan. It included a beautified river front, new housing and improved streetscape. Even though the plan is for the entire city, a big focus will be on downtown, which is great news for K&K True Value.

"It's definitely better for our business its better for almost any business that's down here," said store manager, Casey Keller.

The city is giving the public two weeks to give any input on the final draft. From there the city will present the plan to the planning and zoning commission. The city hopes to have a final approval by June 2015.
