A Davenport convenience store clerk reportedly had a cut and bruised face after an alleged robbery attempt, that later led to a police pursuit.
Antonio Cortez Williamson, 29, went into the QC Mart at 414 East Locust Street at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 according to an affidavit from police. Williamson allegedly hit the clerk one time with a closed fist, knocking the clerk to the ground.
"The victim had a laceration and bruising on the left side of his face," the affidavit said.
Less than a half-hour later, police said, officers tried to pull over a red Dodge Caliber that was reportedly involved in the robbery. The driver, 33-year-old Deondra Thomas, refused to stop when police first tried to stop the car as it was being parked the 400 block of East Pleasant Street, police said.
The Dodge then sped away westbound on Pleasant Street. Police said the driver was reckless, running stop signs and hitting speeds of more than 90 miles per hour once the car got to Brady Street. Thomas did not yield at stop lights and was “driving in complete disregard for the general public,” police said.
Jail records showed Williamson was held in the Scott County Jail without bond, charged with two counts of assault while displaying a weapon and one count of assault with injury. Thomas was held in the Scott County Jail without bond after police charged him with multiple traffic offenses, eluding, assault with injury and open container.
