Gov. Rauner stops by the QC to promote “turnaround” plan

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner stopped in the Quad Cities as part of his week-long tour to promote his plan to get Illinois back on track.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner stopped in the Quad Cities as part of his week-long tour to promote his plan to get Illinois back on track.

Governor Rauner got his first tour of the Rock Island Arsenal on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, as part of a statewide tour touting his turnaround package that was outlined in February.

Not everyone's supported his ideas or budget proposal, but the governor's working to build support, including in the General Assembly.

"We're asking many of them to vote and endorse the turnaround agenda," said Governor Rauner.

The package includes job growth proposals, taxpayer protection, a property tax freeze and pension reform. If the Governor's budget proposal were to pass as is, that could mean cuts in the Quad Cities. Several municipalities have passed resolutions opposing the Governor's plan that would trim more than $600 million from cities across the state.

"We need to work with the local government to find ways to save money and make sure we have a balance budget and that requires cuts," said Governor Rauner.

For now at least the state subsidy to get direct flights from Washington, D.C to the Quad Cities remains on hold. Also unknown, whether Rauner's proposed 40 percent cut of Amtrak support could impact Moline's Amtrak project.

"Everything to me is under review," said Governor Rauner.
