Tuesday April 7th is National Beer Day and local craft breweries celebrated by showing News 8 around their shops.

Richard Day, who owns Green Tree Brewery in LeClaire, Iowa said while there isn't any beer brewing there yet, he's hoping to get the shop up and running within the next month or two.

"Once we broke ground the construction just started flying right along," Day said. "It's going to be a great attraction for LeClaire. We'll be bringing in the brewing equipment next week."

Day is one of thousands of people across the country with a passion for craft beer.

According to the Brewers Association, in 2004 there were 1,413 craft breweries across the country. Now there are more than double, with 3,418 counted in 2014.

"I think they're becoming a lot pickier and more demanding," said Day. "I've already had several people ask me with my beers, 'well I want this type of wheat beer, or I want this type of IPA.' They actually know what kind of hops they want and what kind of flavors they want."

It's a demand that the brewers at Front Street Brewery in Davenport know all too well, with two locations now along River Drive.

"I think that people are starting to get a taste for good beer and that's something that I hope we provide," said Matthew Welding, a brewer at Front Street Brewery's Tap Room. "You see a lot more people coming in and trying new styles and that's what we want."

April 7th was named National Beer Day because that's the day in 1933 when people could once again legally buy, make, and drink beer due to the end of prohibition. April 6th is National New Beer's Eve.
