The Allegiant Air strike that was set to begin Thursday, April 2, 2015 has been averted, according to a statement from Allegiant Travel Company.
A Las Vegas court issued a temporary restraining order against the association that represents Allegiant pilots, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1224. Teamsters initially announced the strike Wednesday afternoon, April 1.
“Allegiant has every reason to believe that the Teamsters will honor the court’s instructions and will not be able to continue with their illegal intention to strike,” said the statement from Allegiant.
The statement said the strike would have potentially left thousands of travelers with cancelled flights over the Easter holiday weekend. The court order will prevent this from happening.
“All scheduled Allegiant flights are expected to operate normally,” the statement went on to say.
"Although we know that our strike to restore the status quo is legal, we will comply with the judge's decision and look forward to having our voices heard at the upcoming hearing," said an Allegiant pilot quoted on the union's website.
For passengers who already planned to reschedule flights, the airline is still letting them reschedule without penalty or to “no show” for a full refund through April 7.
