The Salvation Army will close their thrift store on 11th Street in Rock Island, Illinois, as part of a project that will also relocate their stores in Clinton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Salvation Army is phasing out smaller stores, and planned to replace those stores with larger locations that occupy four to six times as much space, with more and better parking.

“We will not abandon the Rock Island community, and plan to make every effort to find the right location with space for a new, larger store in Rock Island,” said Salvation Army Captain Alex Velasquez.  Staff at the store, at 2125 11th Street, will be reassigned to work at other Salvation Army Family Stores in the Quad Cities area.

The Salvation Army also planned to close a small store in Clinton, Iowa, and replace it with a newer and much larger store in the former Office Max location at 2808 S. 25th Street.  The new store was expected to bring 60 new jobs to Clinton, and the location change was planned for summer 2015.

The Salvation Army also planned to purchase a larger store location to replace a smaller store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and to open that new location by late summer 2015.

“The larger stores will have the potential to generate more jobs and increase funds to provide addiction rehabilitation services in our community, and in surrounding areas,” Capt. Velasquez said.
