The combination of dry weather and high wind speeds created a fire danger for the Quad Cities area on Monday, March 30, 2015.

Just after 2 p.m. on Monday, several fire crews responded to a brush fire in the 1700 block of 290th Street in Sherrard, Illinois.

The owner had a small brush fire Sunday night, but with the wind, the fire quickly spread to the field.

"People are cleaning up their yard, burning brush and the wind on these windy days, the wind takes it.  Next thing you know, it's out in the field," said Orion Fire Captain Brandon Thomsen.

Around 3  p.m. crews responded to another brush fire out of control about a mile down the road.

"Check the weather, you know? Make sure wind's not gonna be blowing," said Thomsen.
