Julie Trepa, principal at Paul Norton Elementary School, was named the 2015 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year.  Trepa was nominated by her peers for the award.

The award was announced Monday, March 30, 2015, by the School Administrators of Iowa, which cited Trepa’s leadership skill and attitude as factors in their decision.

“She has high expectations for students and staff and has worked to establish learning supports to help them achieve,” said SAI executive director Dan Smith, “She also strives to create a positive and safe culture in the building through her guidance of programs they’ve implemented.”

Trepa will be recognized at a governor’s awards ceremony in May 2015 and at the SAI annual conference in August.  She will also be honored in the fall as a National Distinguished Principal in Washington, D.C.

Trepa has been principal at Norton for 13 years, and was previously associated principal at Bettendorf Middle School.
