An email scam, involving phony notices to appear in Rock Island County courts, has targeted some people in the Quad Cities area. The scam involves fake notices to appear in court, and the notices are sent by email.
“People receiving these fraudulent email notices may or may not have actual cases pending in the court system,” said Rock Island County Sheriff Gerry Bustos. The information in the emails is false, Bustos said, because the courts never send such notices via email.
Recipients should not respond to those emails, and Bustos warned to never provide any personal or financial information. Questions about court notices should be directed to the court system .
