Rock Island leaders will put the final beam into place into the city's new police station. The placement will happen during a ceremony taking place on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Architects have released drawings of what the new police station will look like. The police station will replace the current building which is connected to city hall. The new station is going up near the intersections of 12th Street and 5th Avenue, and 13th Street and 6th Avenue in the Old Chicago neighborhood. The police station will double the size of their current facility.

The current facility was built back in the 1940s. Police Chief Jeff VenHuizen recently discussed how the police station will be different from the current facility.

"With this new design of the police department, there's going to be a community room, which we're very excited about," VehHuizen said. "It will allow us to engage with the community. We can have our block club meetings there, it's going to be a nice component, nice feature."

Wednesday's ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m. Construction of the facility should be complete by November of 2015.
