Local family helps get grant for school in LeClaire

A Scott County farmer won a $2,500 grant to help fund a reading program at Cody Elementary School in LeClaire, Iowa.

A Scott County farmer won a $2,500 grant to help fund a reading program at Cody Elementary School in LeClaire, Iowa.

Jeff Claussen was the Scott County winner for the money, awarded from the America's Farmers Grow Communities program sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.  Farmers in more than 1,300 counties, across 40 states, can enter to win a $2,500 donation for the local non-profit of their choice. Claussen chose Cody Elementary.

Claussen and his family presented the ceremonial check to the school Monday, March 23, 2015.

School leaders planned to use the grant to help fund literacy programs.
