East of the Quad Cities, an Illinois State Police Trooper driving in the tail of Governor Bruce Rauner’s motorcade was involved in a crash.

The motorcade was travelling southbound on Interstate 55 at LaGrange Road when the trooper lost control and struck the rear tandem axle of a truck tractor, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.  The crash happened about 20 miles southwest of Chicago in Countryside, Illinois around 8:15 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015.

Police said road conditions caused the trooper to lose control.

“The vehicle the Governor was traveling in was not involved in the traffic crash,” the statement said.

The trooper involved in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital, was treated and released, police said.
