The Niabi Zoo’s newest baby giraffe has been named. A name you may recognize.
“Genesis” was announced as the young boy’s name on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2015. He was named after his sponsor Genesis Health Systems.
Also mentioned during the announcement was an injury sustained by the baby giraffe. Zoo officials say the baby’s mom accidentally stepped on his leg.
“We are hopeful that there is no long-term damage there and that he heals up quickly and he is able to live a very happy and healthy life,” said Zoo Director Marc Heinzman.
