A Geneseo man was accused of OWI when he allegedly drove a car down a spiral pedestrian bridge in Iowa City, Iowa.

Witnesses said they saw someone drive a car on the pedestrian bridge that crosses Riverside Drive at Iowa Avenue, just before 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015.  The bridge is a little more than eight feet wide, and spirals to ground level at Iowa Avenue.  (The minimum width for traffic lanes on most U.S. and interstate highways is 12 feet, and for most local roads is nine to 12 feet, according to the Federal Highway Administration website.)

The car was on the sidewalk when police arrived, according to the police report.

Brian Bordwell, 19, of Geneseo, Illinois, “exhibited multiple signs of intoxication including blood shot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, and a strong odor of ingested alcoholic beverage,” the police report said.  A breathalyzer test showed Bordwell’s blood alcohol content was more than .08, the report said.

Bordwell was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated.  Jail records showed he was released after posting $1,000 bond.
