North Scott is the Class 4A Iowa Basketball State Champions.
The Lancers battled the Pleasant Valley Spartans in the final post-season game Saturday, March 14, 2015.
It was a hard-fought game between the Lancers and the Spartans that swapped leaders throughout the first half. The first quarter ended with Pleasant Valley in the lead at 12-11.
During the second quarter, the Lancers took the Spartans lead, pulling the score up to 13-12. With 2:28 left in the second quarter, North Scott continued to hold its lead at 15-14 over Pleasant Valley. By the time halftime rolled around, however, Pleasant Valley had regained its lead over North Scott with 16-15 on the scoreboard.
Into the third quarter, scores remained tight with Pleasant Valley leading North Scott 21-18. The lead swapping hit the third quarter as well, with the Lancers getting back in the lead by the end of the quarter, 27-24 over the Spartans.
With just over five minutes left in the final quarter, North Scott kept its lead over Pleasant Valley at 29-26, and gained a taller lead of 34-28 with just under four minutes to go.
After a couple of free throws, North Scott found itself holding a 10-point lead over Pleasant Valley with just over three minutes to go.
Down into the final seconds Pleasant Valley continued holding on to its leader North Scott at 44-34. A last second jump-up pulled the Spartans up two more points.
Their solid lead in the fourth earned North Scott the championship with a final of 44-36- the Lancer's gained their first state title.
Spartans are the Class 4A runner up.
