A Marengo woman died when she was ejected from a pickup truck that went off the road and overturned in Benton County, Iowa.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was southbound on 30th Avenue when the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve just south of Norway, at about 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol. The truck went into the ditch on the east side of the road and overturned, ejecting 20-year-old Christine Ballard of Marengo. The truck came to rest upright.
Ballard was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Norway, Iowa, was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City.
The report did not indicate whether the driver or Ballard wore seat belts at the time of the crash.
