The Pleasant Valley Spartans defeated the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars in a State Quarterfinal match-up.
The entire game Wednesday evening, March 11, 2015 remained close, but it was especially anyone’s game after the first quarter which ended in a 12-12 tie.
The Spartans gained a lead during the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 28-24 lead over the Cougars.
Pleasant Valley opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run, pulling up their lead to 38-26 over C.R. Kennedy. By the end of the quarter, Spartans were up 41-35.
During the fourth quarter, the Cougars snagged some points, lifting their score to 41-37 and got as close as 42-41, with Pleasant Valley in the lead.
With a little over three minutes left in the game, C.R. Kennedy gained two points over Pleasant Valley, finally surpassing the Spartans.
That lead lasted only a few minutes, as the Spartans regained their lead and with seconds left in the game, Pleasant Valley held a 50-47 lead over the Cougars.
With a total of twelve more points scored in the game’s final seconds, Pleasant Valley secured a victory, 58-51, over C.R. Kennedy.
