On one of the biggest weekends of the year in the Quad Cities, one of its biggest events-- CASI's  St. Patrick's Day Race-- could be bigger than ever.

"It's the 33rd year we've been doing this," the CEO of Davenport's Center for Active Seniors, Laura Kopp, told News 8. "It's [our] largest fundraiser, but it's also the first race of Spring-- it's fast, it's flat, it's fun, it's easy for the runners, and 100% of the money raised comes back to support area seniors through CASI."

Thousands of runners will whip through downtown Davenport Saturday ahead of The Grand Parade, with the Tot Trot starting at 9 a.m., the 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K at 10 a.m.

"Mother Nature cooperated," Kopp said. "We were able to pull out some great weather, so we're anticipating record numbers coming out this weekend."

But before any of the events even begin, CASI's off to a fast start, as Necker's chose CASI and the annual race as the recipient of their "Gift of Giving," set to donate a portion of all proceeds all month long to support the group's mission of supporting local seniors.

"We cannot say enough about our partners at Necker's," Kopp exclaimed. "They support CASI throughout the year, not just with this event, but certainly [as] their charity of the month again!"
