A 17-year-old girl died when the SUV she was driving collided with another SUV at an intersection in Keokuk County, Iowa.

Police said Bethanne Cooksey of Hedrick, Iowa, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox traveling westbound on Highway 78 when it was struck by a 2010 Jeep Patriot that was northbound on 270th Avenue.   The Jeep failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.  Both vehicles came to rest in a field on the northwest corner of the intersection, police said.

Cooksey, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The 22-year-old and 17-year-old occupants of the Jeep, both of Bloomfield, Iowa, were airlifted to a hospital and they were last listed in stable condition, the state patrol report said.   Neither of them wore a seat belt at the time of the crash according to the initial crash report filed by Iowa State Patrol.

Services for Bethanne Cooksey were planned for Friday, March 13, 2015, at Pekin High School, according to the Ottumwa Courier.
