After he was apprehended following a standoff with police in Davenport, an Iowa Amber Alert suspect was returned to the county where it all started.

An Amber Alert was issued at about 3:30 p.m. after Kenneth Johns, 48, was accused of abducting his stepdaughter in Solon, Iowa on Saturday, March 7, 2015. The 10-year-old, hearing-impaired girl was reportedly safe when she was later dropped to police by another person, and Johns was found at a duplex on Farnum Street and Central Park Avenue in Davenport.

About 12 hours after police got a tip about Johns’ location, a tactical team began negotiations with him. After about 2-1/2 hours, the standoff ended and Johns was taken into custody.

Johns was booked into the Scott County Jail and later transferred to Johnson County, where he was held in connection with February 2015 charges of violating parole and domestic abuse with a weapon. Jail records showed he was held on those charges; he was expected to face arraignment Tuesday, March 10, for charges connected to the alleged abduction.

Johns’ wife, who is the mother of the allegedly abducted girl, said she believed Johns was abusive and unstable. She married him while he was incarcerated at the state prison in Mount Pleasant according to a report from KCRG.

Johns’ stepdaughter was in protective custody.
