When a fire ripped through part of Spencer Towers this week, it took one woman's belongings and memories along with it.

Three people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 after an apartment fire in Rock Island. It happened at the Spencer Towers at 2nd Avenue and 20th Street shortly after 2 a.m.

The blaze started in Gladys Gibbs apartment. Luckily Gibbs was not home at the time. However, the fire destroyed her belongings and her home.

"I saw just all the flames coming out of my window and then I knew then it was over because I mean it was just flames. It had overtaken the apartment and I just started crying," said Gibbs.

For now Gibbs is going to stay with friends. The Red Cross has offered assistance.

An account has been set up in Gibbs' name for donations. People can donate at any American Bank and Trust Co locations.
