Car trouble led to even more trouble for a Muscatine, Iowa woman and a passenger in her car.

Police said 21-year-old Amanda Thompson and a 17-year-old boy were traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when someone reported their vehicle had broken down just east of the Oxford exit just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015. The police officer, sent to help them, said Thompson initially lied about her identity, but police determined who she was and that she had a barred driver’s license and two Muscatine County warrants for her arrest.

Court records showed Thompson was wanted in connection with failing to appear in court in connection with a charge of habitually driving while barred.

The teen reportedly admitted to taking the vehicle the previous day without permission from the owner in Muscatine, according to a report filed by police.

Troopers said they found a bottle of whiskey on the passenger’s side floor of the vehicle, a pipe with white residue in the glove compartment, and syringes, scales, two more pipes and a makeup mirror with a white residue on it.

Jail records showed Thompson was charged with driving while revoked, providing false identification, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. The charges are misdemeanors. Thompson remained held in the Johnson County Jail, in lieu of a total of $600 cash bond, as of Monday morning, March 2.

The teen was charged as a juvenile for possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol under age.
