Dozens of Latino youth in the Quad Cities are taking part in an event that's all about them and their futures.

The Latino Youth Summit took place on Saturday, February 28th at Black Hawk College in Moline. Approximately 50 students, grades 7-12, attended along with their families.

"We do have so many Hispanic students here in the Quad Cities and we want to make sure we're reaching out to them and providing all the resources that are available for them so they can take advantage of them," said Gabriella Hurtado, with Black Hawk College.

The free event included workshops on financial aid, scholarships, college admissions, English as a Second Language programs, and more.

"Hispanic youth will be empowered to take ownership of their future with workshops targeted to their age group while parents attend separate sessions," said a press release.
