Deere and Caterpillar among companies honored by Junior Achievement

Caterpillar, Inc. and Deere & Company were among 50 organizations to receive the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award from Junior Achievement USA.

“The U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award is a presidential recognition program created in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation for individuals of all ages who contribute a significant amount of time to volunteer service,” said the Junior Achievement 2014 Annual Report.  Gold level recipient companies provided 15,000 hours of volunteer service, silver level companies provided 10,000 hours and bronze level companies provided 5,000 hours of volunteer support to Junior Achievement, the report said.

Junior Achievement fosters understanding economics and entrepreneurship for young people.

“John Deere employees embrace the opportunity to enrich the quality of life in the communities where they live and work,” said Mara Sovey, Deere’s Director of Global Citizenship.  Deere employees volunteered more than 5,000 hours to their local Junior Achievement programs, according to a statement from Deere & Company.
