Scott County is considering adding two new courtrooms to the first floor of its courthouse. The Board of Supervisors considered phase three of the plans on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at its Committee of the Whole meeting.

Work on phases one and two of the courthouse is already being done. The county would spend about $230,000 on some of the work for phase three. Phase three of the project involves adding the two new courtrooms. The rooms are typically for non-felony cases. County workers say the new courtrooms will have the highest volume of people in them, in the entire building.

"The traffic in and out of these courts [is high], and if we can make them more efficient, it's better for the experience for our citizens," Scott County Facilities Director David Donovan said Tuesday. "It's better for the clerk's office and the courts to be able to do their business in a more effective manner."

The construction cost will be approved at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2015. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at the Scott County Admin Center.
