State lawmakers in Iowa are still asking questions about the problem-plagued new prison in Fort Madison, which was supposed to open more than a year ago.
The original price tag for the 132 million dollar facility continues to climb, with no date set yet for transferring inmates.
This week, lawmakers grilled Janet Phipps, the head of the agency overseeing the project.
They questioned her why she had no idea some of the pipes at the prison were on the verge of freezing after possible new problems with the building’s geothermal system may have popped up.
Phipps inherited the problem after the previous director was fired in April 2014.
