A handbag that disappeared from a fundraiser, meant to help a little girl with lymphoma, has been found.

The bag was offered in a silent auction to help raise money for three-year-old Hannah Eberhart, who is battling anaplastic large cell lymphoma. The benefit raised more than $35,000 and was a bonding experience for people in Blue Grass, Iowa.

When it was time to announce silent auction winners, a Coach purse valued at $165 was missing. Blue Grass Police Sgt. Garrett Jahns posted a passionate plea for the safe return of the bag, saying he thought it was stolen and he offered $200 of his own money as a reward for the return of the bag. Hannah’s family said they hoped it was just mistakenly taken as part of a package of prizes.  Thousands of Facebook users liked and shared Jahns’ post.

Jahns said the bag was found and turned into police Monday morning, February 23. Someone found the handbag in a residential mailbox and reported the discovery to police.

Jahns said his department had the handbag, and they were continuing to investigate the case as a possible theft.
