A passenger died when an SUV was broadsided by a semi in rural Washington, Iowa.

A passenger died when an SUV was broadsided by a semi in rural Washington, Iowa.

Harold Wylie, 83, of Washington, was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra southbound on Nutmeg Avenue when his vehicle did not stop at the stop sign, at the intersection with County Road G36, just before 8:30 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The SUV was struck on the passenger side by a semi, from Janecek Trucking, traveling eastbound on County Road G36. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch.

Wylie’s passenger, 81 year old Verlee Wylie also of Washington, died at the scene of the crash. Harold Wylie was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

No injuries were reported for anyone in the semi.
