One person died when his truck crashed into a moving train and vehicle just west of Williamsfield, Illinois.

The wreck was reported just after 11 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015, in the 1400 block of Knox County Road 2100 E, about a quarter mile north of Knox Highway 18 and a half-mile west of Williamsfield, in Knox County.

A pickup truck belonging to 20-year-old Cole Steele, of rural Gilson, was northbound on Knox County Road 2100 E when it hit the crossing arm and crashed into a westbound train just after 10 p.m.  The wreck was not reported until an hour later, when someone on an eastbound train saw the damaged truck on the tracks, according to Sgt. Jason Landers of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

Firefighters from Williamsfield and Dahinda, as well as a helicopter ambulance, were sent to the scene according to Central Illinois Fire Society.

Cole Steele and 22-year-old Andrew Stone, of Knoxville, were in the truck when it crashed.  Steele was pronounced dead at the scene; Stone was airlifted to a hospital in Peoria, Landers said.

No injuries were reported to anyone on the BNSF train involved in the crash.
