An overloaded extension cord caused a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Burlington, Iowa.
Firefighters arrived to the home shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015. They found smoke and flames coming from the front door, according to Burlington Fire Marshal Mark Crooks.
Crooks said the owner was able to escape the mobile home. There was a pet cat that did not make it out and died as a result of the fire.
“The mobile home sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss,” Crooks said in a statement.
The fire was determined to have been caused by an overloaded extension cord.
A dozen firefighters from the Burlington Fire Department responded to the call as well as three West Burlington Firefighters who came to assist. The Red Cross was called to help the owner with basic needs and shelter.
