Getting an education just got a little bit quicker for students in some majors at the University of Iowa. Beginning in the fall of 2015, first-year undergraduates will have the option to sign up for Iowa Degree in Three, which is a quicker and more cost-effective way for students to earn certain degrees.

As it kicks off, the program will include Communication Studies, English, History, International Studies, Marketing and Theatre Arts, according to the University of Iowa website.

University of Iowa President Sally Mason said the program is for students who are willing to have more credit hours per semester than most students. The program also works for degree-seekers who enroll with previously completed credits.

According to the University of Iowa, students can enter the program after beginning classes in the fall.  Participants must agree to talk with advisors regularly and meet checkpoints set up by their department of study.
