The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Rock Island County, which governs the Quad City International Airport, has bought the old Flicks property, on the south side of the airport.

The airport's Director of Aviation Bruce Carter said,  the board approved the $1.1 million purchase at their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, February 17, 2015. He said the airport plans to tear the building down. Carter would like a hotel, restaurant, or other type of development at that site. Carter said a new tenant at the site could help the airport make more money.

"Each month, we get about $11,000 a month in revenue from the Hampton," Carter said. "We get about $5,000 to six $6,000 off the Holiday Inn Express, so this particular parcel is five acres as opposed to the hotels, which is three, so I would anticipate a larger revenue source for this particular project."

Carter said the airport will likely take over the property on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. The airport would like to have the building torn down by this summer.
