Thousands of MidAmerican Energy customers lost electricity on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities area Monday evening, February 9, 2015.

Outages began being reported around 6:30 p.m. when more than 8,800 customers were reportedly without power.  Most of the outages were in Colona, Orion and Andalusia areas of Rock Island and Henry counties.

By about 7:15 p.m., the number of customers experiencing a power outage jumped to more than 11,700.  More than 2,800 of those outages were in Colona; more than 3,200 were in Henry County and more than 1,700 in Mercer County.   Several hundred customers were without electricity in Andalusia and hundreds more lost power in Sherrard.  Nearly 1,000 of the outages were in Orion, and several hundred outages were reported in Matherville, Andover and in Reynolds.

Just before 7:30 p.m., the number of outages reported on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities was more than 13,400.  That number lowered again to just over 11,300 just before 8 p.m.

A MidAmerican Energy spokesperson was not yet able to report the cause of the outages, and it was unclear when service might be restored.

The company tweeted they had found an issue with a transmission line and about 3,000 affected customers had service restored by about 8:20 p.m.   At that same time, the total customers without power was down to just over 6,900 on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities.

Fewer than 3,000 customers were still without power just before 9:30 p.m.  By about 10:30 p.m., MidAmerican Energy reported all service had been restored.
