KinderCare requiring employees to get measles vaccine

Employees of a national daycare center have until Monday, February 9, 2015 to be vaccinated against the measles.

Employees of a national daycare center have until Monday, February 9, 2015 to be vaccinated against the measles.

In early February, five infants at a Chicago-area KinderCare were diagnosed with the measles, reported ABC News. Now, all employees that work in the daycare’s infant rooms are being required to get the measles vaccination.

This requirement is impacting the Quad Cities as well, as there are multiple KinderCare locations in the area, including Rock Island, Davenport, and Bettendorf.

“While it is not a requirement for children who attend our centers to be vaccinated, we highly encourage parents to speak with their family doctor about immunizations for their children, and we work closely with each family to be sure our immunization records are up-to-date,” said a spokesperson from the KinderCare company, reported ABC News.

The Center for Disease Control says measles are highly contagious and one person with the virus can spread through coughing and sneezing and can live on surfaces for up to two hours.
