A Connecticut woman continued her love of practical jokes even after she passed away.

Norma Brewer, from Fairfield, Connecticut, was 83 years old when she died of a stroke in January 2015, reported the Connecticut Post.  The mother and grandmother was remembered for her humor.

So it was no surprise to her family when a joke appeared in her obituary, which the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield confirmed that she wrote herself.

The following is the first paragraph of her obituary:

Norma Rae Flicker Brewer, a resident of Fairfield, passed away while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. She never realized her life goal of reaching the summit, but made it to the base camp. Her daughter, Donna, her dog, Mia, and her cats, came along at the last minute. There is suspicion that Mrs. Brewer died from hypothermia, after Mia ate Mrs. Brewer’s warm winter boots and socks.

Donna Brewer, Norma’s daughter, told the Connecticut Post that since the obituary was printed on Saturday, January 31 she has received several phone calls about it.

“It was typical mom,” Donna said to the Connecticut Post. “She always had stories, many of which were not true, but thought were funny.”

Norma’s son Raymond Brewer said her embellished obituary was all part of how she looked at life.

“It had more to do with the way she viewed the world,” Raymond said. “While life is serious, it shouldn’t be taken all that serious.”
