After a weekend storm dumped more than a foot of snow on the Quad Cities area, Moline residents became increasingly vocal as frustration built over the condition of city streets.  The city was getting plenty of complaints about snow removal according to an apology from Mayor Scott Raes issued Tuesday, February 3, 2015.

Raes said the city thought crews would be able to clear the slush and wet snow from streets before it all froze, with minimal use of salt; he now says they were too conservative with the salt on main and arterial roads.   "Snow plowing is not an exact science, and the decisions made in this situation proved incorrect," Raes said.

Some roads remained snow- or slush-covered two days after snowfall ended.  Some road surfaces were rough with scattered patches of packed snow and ice.

"I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this situation has caused, and I assure you that city staff is doing all it can to rectify the situation as soon as possible," Raes said.  "All available drivers and crews have been out for 24 hours since the beginning of the storm and are applying salt and plowing in order to clear the roads."

Raes said residential streets were also being plowed.
