An East Moline, Illinois woman faced criminal charges after she allegedly hit a one-year-old she cared for at her in-home daycare.

Roxanne Coulson, 60, operated a licensed child care at her home according to East Moline Police Lt. Darren Gault.  Coulson was accused of hitting a one-year-old child in the face and neck.

Now, that child's mother is speaking out to News 8.

"I was recommended the daycare through my brother and sister-in-law, they interviewed [Coulson] and everything," said Samantha Moody, whose one-year-old daughter was allegedly beaten by Coulson. "Nobody suspected that this could have ever happened."

On Wednesday, January 28th, Moody dropped her daughter, Lilah, off at Coulson Family Daycare. Then, just a few hours later, she received a text message from Coulson to call her.

"The first thing she said was she just got done kicking another child out of the daycare and that [a] little boy had gotten mad at Lilah and shoved her face into a pile of toys and sat on her," said Moody.

"After that, she explained that her injuries were minor, that she barely had any marks, that she put an ice pack on her face to reduce the swelling, and that her paramedic friend came and checked her out," Moody said.

However Moody was still suspicious because Lilah had come home hurt once before.

"This isn't the first time she's hit my daughter," said Moody. "The first time, she said [Lilah] had tripped over a block and got scratches all down her neck."

So this time, Moody had her mother pick Lilah up from the daycare immediately.

"My mom brought her to my work and the second I saw her face I knew that a three-year-old couldn't have done that," said Moody.

Moody called DCFS, who interviewed her with police the next day. Upon further investigation, police arrested Coulson on Friday, January 30th.

Court records showed Coulson was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery of a child, and misdemeanor endangering the life and health of a child. She was held in the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
