After three days of trial, a jury found a Rock Island man guilty of beating a four-month-old baby to death.

The jury went out just after 3:30 Friday, January 30, 2015 and after two hours decided 21-year-old Lavail Dunbar, the boyfriend of the baby's mother, was guilty of murder and aggravated battery of a child.

On Friday morning, jurors watched an hour long interview between two police detectives and Dunbar, where he repeatedly denied knowing what happened to the baby.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Mark Peters later testified the baby died of massive head trauma, including multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain.

The baby's mother, Leila Martin is also charged with murder. Outside the courtroom on Friday, Martin's mother said her daughter is only guilty of "trusting the wrong man."

Dunbar faces up to 60 years in prison.
