Super Bowl pizza purchases to benefit Galesburg library

In Galesburg, Illinois, a portion of Sunday sales at five pizza joints will go to the Galesburg Public Library Foundation.

This year's Super Bowl pizza purchase could go towards a good cause.

In Galesburg, Illinois, a portion of Sunday sales at five pizza joints will go to the Galesburg Public Library Foundation.

"The budget that we have through tax dollars is really insufficient to get the nicer things that cost a lot of money, like microfilm readers and those sorts of things that are expensive. So, that's where the foundation comes in," said Martin Reichel, a member of the Galesburg Public Library Foundation.

The donations will hopefully also help with one big-ticket item in particular.

"One of the big projects right now is building a new library for the City of Galesburg, and of course, that's a big job," said Reichel.

Dewayne Sperlin, owner of the Pizza House, says his restaurant will be participating. He expects to do around 50 to 80 deliveries in a four-hour period during the Super Bowl.

"It's always big," said Sperlin.

He hopes the extra business will translate into a win for the entire community.

"It's kinda nice to see something new come to town, and it's what we need for the whole community. A better library is for everybody, you know?" said Sperlin.

Participating restaurants include:

  • Budde's Pizza and Spirits, 425 East Main Street, will donate $3 for each large pizza sold on Super Bowl Sunday. Includes dine in or carry out.
  • Pizza House, 132 East Simmons, will donate 10 percent of Sunday's pizza sales to the Foundation. Includes dine in, carry out or delivery.
  • Hammer's General Feed Store, 261 North Broad Street, will donate a portion of Sunday's pizza sales to the Foundation.
  • Both HyVee Food Stores in Galesburg will make a donation to the Foundation for pizzas sold Thursday, January 29th through Sunday, February 1st.
