Area police are planning to beef up their patrols on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Rock Island Police Department will be cracking down on drunk drivers and seatbelt violators.
“Drunk driving is completely preventable,” said Chief VenHuizen. “All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it’s a choice, and the choice is simple. Drink or drive – but never do both. If you do, you will be arrested.”
Troopers with the Illinois State Police also plan to step up their patrols, looking for impaired drivers.
State Police are reminding Super Bowl party hosts that they can be held responsible for their guests’ actions.
“Remember you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you served ends up in a drunk driving crash,” said a statement from the Illinois State Police.
Police also said if parents or adults serve alcohol to someone under 21, or if they host a party where alcohol is available to underage people, they could face jail time.
