A veteran first responder had a tough time choking back tears while testifying in the trial of a Quad City man accused of killing a baby.
During day two of testimony, Rock Island Fire Capt. Darren LeBeau testifed about the day he and his colleagues desperately tried to save the baby, and how badly he was injured.
"It looked like the little one had been in an MMA fight," Capt. LeBeau said, his voice cracking.
"It looked like the infant had been involved in a mixed martial arts fight. The head was swollen more than it should. Maybe two times the size," he said.
LeBeau is one of about half a dozen first responders and hospital personnel who have testified about the baby's injuries.
The baby's mother, Leila Martin, is not expected to testify against Dunbar. She faces her own murder trial in March.
Judge Walter Braud told the jury they may possibly get the case on Friday, and to be prepared to stay late.
If convicted, Dunbar faces up to 60 years on the murder charge.
