Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Paul Rumler says the direct flight from the Quad City International Airport to Washington D.C. is still on. The news come after newly elected Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner put a freeze on all 'non essential spending.' The freeze has raised questions as to whether projects like the Amtrak line and the direct flight will actually continue.

Back in June, Illinois announced that the airport would receive a $1.5 million a year grant to fund the flight. The Chamber says the flight could especially benefit employees on the Rock Island Arsenal, who go to Washington D.C. often. The chamber's Executive Vice President Paul Rumler says the process to get the flight is still continuing.

"We have not yet announced the D.C. flight because we are finalizing the contract with the airline," Rumer said. "The next step will be to finalize the contract with the state."

Rumler would not say which airline would get the direct flight, but the chamber and the airport could make that announcement soon. Rumler says the airport would like to have the flight running by this summer.
