A GoDaddy ad featuring an adorable puppy went from bad to worse, and was eventually cancelled altogether.

Some were unhappy with the puppy appearing to be put through some dangerous situations, including a fall from the bed of a pickup truck and walking along the shoulder as a speeding vehicle passes on a highway. Others were offended by what happened when the puppy finally made it “home,” as its owner appears happy that it returned – but only because selling the puppy made her some money.

A petition launched on Change.org called for GoDaddy to cancel plans to air the ad during the Super Bowl on February 1, 2015. The petition had more than 42,000 supporters as of Tuesday, January 27.

GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving tweeted confirmation that the company would not air the ad.  His longer explanation, on a GoDaddy blog, promised the company still planned to be seen during the Super Bowl, “and we hope it makes you laugh.” Irving also said the puppy featured in the ad lives with a longtime GoDaddy employee.

Tell us what you think – is the ad really offensive or just misunderstood?
