Rock Island-native Madison Keys was bested in a semifinal round against Serena Williams in the Australian Open.

At just 19 years old, Keys made it further than she ever has in a Grand Slam when she played Williams in the Australian Open Semifinal Thursday, January 29, 2015.

Keys lost the match after two sets: 7-6 and 6-2.

Just one day before, Keys defeated Venus Williams in the quarterfinals. She took the first and third sets 6-3 and 6-4, dropping the second set 6-4.

Only a handful of tennis players have defeated both Serena Williams and Venus Williams in the same tournament, according to an ESPN report. The last player to do so was Jelena Jankovic in 2010.

Williams will play Maria Sharapova in the final round on Saturday, January 31.
